The Bryson Institute of The Attic Youth Center offers educational programs, trainings, and consultation services about the best practices for working with LGBTQ youth.

 

Trained educators as well as youth leaders from LGBTQ communities provide trainings and share their experiences, needs, and hopes for the future, while engaging varied audiences in responsible dialogue to counteract homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism.

Possible audiences include:

· Social Workers & Psychologists

· School Counselors & Social Workers

· Nurses (Hospital, School, Clinics)

· Teachers , Administrators, and Superintendents                           

· Religious Groups and Clergy

· High School Gay/Straight Alliances

· Health Care Providers

· Foster Care Parents

· Parents

· Youth

· Child Welfare Workers

· Graduate and Undergraduate Students

 

Trainings Offered:

Our “Introduction to Working with LGBTQ Youth” will increase participants’ knowledge by:

             -Understanding terminology and definitions relevant to LGBTQ youth

             -Examining the impact of homophobia and heterocentrism in our culture

             -Presenting research on the environment of schools and communities for LGBTQ                           youth

             -Providing an understanding of the unique issues facing LGBTQ youth

             -Addressing areas relevant to the experiences for LGBTQ youth including coming                           out issues

             -Exploring action strategies to effectively support LGBTQ youth

 

Beyond our initial training, participants may also benefit from intermediate and advanced trainings and/or consultation services including:

 

· Understanding and Working with Transgender Youth

· Supporting Youth in the Coming Out Process

· Safe Zone Training

· Strategies and Tools for your Agency

Bisexuality Awareness Training

 

The Bryson Institute can also create specialized trainings upon request for audiences wanting to know more about the best practices for supporting LGBTQ youth.
